Old City of Zamosc

Sun Aug 30, 2009, 12:29 AM
Zamość was founded in the year 1580 by the Chancellor and Hetman (head of the army of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth) Jan Zamoyski, on the trade route linking western and northern Europe with the Black Sea. Modelled on Italian trading cities, and built during the Baroque period by the architect Bernardo Morando, a native of Padua, Zamość remains a perfect example of a Renaissance town of the late 16th century, which retains its original layout and fortifications (Zamość Fortress), and a large number of buildings blending Italian and central European architectural traditions. Zamość is one of the most authentic Renaissance cities left in Europe. The urban layout is recognized as an absolutely highest class monument of architecture.

The Old City quarter of Zamość has been placed on the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites.

Gothic Gdansk Impressions

Fri Jan 9, 2009, 6:36 AM
Hallo everyone in this quite new 2009 year. As I promised some months ago, several photographs from last summer trip to Gdańsk-Sopot-Gdynia are going to be presented in the gallery. No macro, no nature this time, but high brick walls, soaring towers, churches and tall, historic, richly ornamented tenements.

All the pictures, taken originally in color, were processed using a digital technique, so only a circular polar filter was screwed on the lens in fact (and this is why in some photos you will see almost black sky). You can see also an enormous number of people walking around – usual thing St. Dominic’s Festival time. But these photos will not be any kind of a picture story, just loose architectural impressions.

Well, my wife like the obtained pictures, I also enjoy them :)
Maybe you will like it too.

Regards.
